5 cleaning hacks to keep your work van sparkling

It’s one of those eternal truths that work vans can get dirty and messy – part and parcel of owning one! While cleaning it may not always make the very top of your to-do list, it’s a good idea to keep on top of it as much as you can. A van that’s too dirty can give an unprofessional first impression, as well as being quite unpleasant to spend time in!

Line cup holders

This is one of those tricks with benefits that might not seem obvious at first, but can save you a lot of hassle in the long run. All you need to do is get yourself a couple of cupcake liners and pop them into any open cup holder! These handy liners keep dirt, dust and more importantly crumbs from going into the cracks — where they are difficult to remove even with damp cloths or wipes. Once the liners are full carefully empty and replace!

Use a car brush to wash the outside

Most vans in the UK do a considerable number of miles every week, especially if they’re being used for professional purposes. If you find yourself cleaning the outside of your van a lot, you can make life a lot easier for yourself by investing in a long arm brush specifically for washing cars. The tall roofs on panel vans mean there is a lot of surface area to wash – brushes help quickly and safely remove dirt and muck without removing the paint.

Get hard to reach dust

If you keep to a particularly rigorous cleaning schedule for your van, you’ll already be familiar with all the hardest-to-clean bits of your van; the air vents especially are notorious for getting crusted with dirt. However, there’s an easy way to sort it! Next time you encounter this problem buy a small sponge brush and lightly dampen with water or your favourite interior cleaner then simply brush out the dirt and grime, leaving your vents looking like new.

Erase grime

Sometimes, once the interior’s been cleaned, you might find that spots still reappear on the door panels. Happily, there’s an easy fix for it. Simply get a magic eraser, lightly dampen it and then simply wipe down the surface. Often the erasers will pick-up dirt or oils left by even the best interior car cleaners, so you get all the benefits of the cleaner with none of the drawbacks. If you’re using this method, we recommend that you always test on a small and inconspicuous area first, as a magic eraser might not be suitable on all surfaces.

Keep rubbish in a reusable container

Modern vans tend to fill a lot of roles; personal transport, business vehicle, and even mobile lunch spot, in a pinch! The fact that so many of us use our vans to get our food on the go means that more often than not, they can quickly be home to all sorts of food and packaging debris. You can save yourself a lot of hassle here though, simply by purchasing a cereal container and line it with a small bin liner. And there you’ll have it; a mini bin for your van that you can empty at any motorway stop and then reline before you hit the road again!
