Renault and Fiat Follow Suit with Efficient Engines

After Mercedes headed the way with their Euro 6 compliant engines to be fitted in the Sprinter, both Renault and Fiat add new engines in their range to keep up the pace.

What is interesting is that these two manufacturers have found their own ways to combat NOx (Nitrous Oxide) emissions without following suit with Mercedes’ use of AdBlue, or similar derivatives.

Renault have simply included a NOx trap to reduce the traces in the output of their engines, whereas Fiat have developed their MultiJet II engines to go with a Low Pressure Exhaust Gas Recirculation system (LPEGR).

This technology cools the gases after the diesel particulate filter, and recirculates them ahead of the turbo charger. This seemingly less complicated system is supposed to save added cost and weight , comparing it (again) to the Sprinter’s solution.
